Statue of Domenico Modugno

Polignano a Mare is known as the birthplace of one of the greatest international artists of all: the famous Domenico Modugno, author of the unforgettable song, Volare. In 2011, the city dedicated the Lungomare Domenico Modugno – its seaside promenade – to its “Mimì”, and the Argentinian sculptor, Hermann Mejer, created a 3-meter tall bronze statue in his honor, immortalizing him in that open-armed gesture, which made him famous worldwide.
